After a 3 week break, everyone was glad to see each other again at The Next Stop this week!
The new year brings a renewed commitment from The Next Stop to continue developing a program that supports increasing independence. With that in mind, we have modified some of our activities to include small groups–more opportunities to “do for themselves”–and step by step directions including pictures for our crafts and cooking.
A big thank you to our new employee Kristen Hermann for helping us to achieve these goals!
We began 2009 with a new dessert–Peach Melba. After all, Wednesday was National Peach Melba Day! It was kind of an odd dessert for the middle of January–but was eaten up nonetheless!
We also enjoyed one of Barack Obama’s favorites. In his honor, we prepared and enjoyed some CHILI as a part of our inauguration day recognition.
With the inauguration of our new president coming up next week, our members role played the swearing in ceremony. Volunteers Ms. Celie and Ms. Karen helped bring this to life!
Thanks to Lynnette Swanson and two of her adaptive PE teachers for visiting with a supply of hockey sticks and pucks!
