The world will be watching the Winter Olympics in Vancouver soon–so why not The Next Stop?! We have spent this week highlighting upcoming Olympic sports and Olympic athletes so our members will be better informed about this exciting event. These kinds of group discussions always set the tone of what The Next Stop seeks to be–a place where interactions are encouraged so that members can be heard, members can learn, and members can continue to improve their social skills.
To help make a few of the Olympic sports more real to our members, we gave them the opportunity to be a “bobsledder” and also to experience the “position” of athletes who participate in the luge and skeleton competitions–all by using some borrowed scooter boards. Even without the ice, helmets, and spandex, everyone enjoyed the Olympic experience—evidenced through all the smiles and laughs!
We were also able to squeeze in a little Valentine’s Day activity by making some candy to enjoy and share with our families. It happened to be National Peppermint Patty Day on February 11th–so that provided our recipe choice. The members mixed, blended, scraped, rolled, melted and drizzled–with a delicious homemade candy result!
