Fire safety becomes a more significant subject when the discussion is being led by firefighters! Lt. Stanley with four of his firefighters/EMT’s from Suwanee’s Station 13 came to The Next Stop along with their firetruck and rescue truck. Members spent time asking questions and being reminded of safety rules.
Of course, going outside to see the trucks is always a highlight. All the hoses and tools around the truck kept everyone’s attention….but nothing like the opportunity to squirt the fire extinguisher (filled with water)!
The firefighters told us that they need to be able to get dressed and ready to respond to an emergency call within 2 minutes. One of the firefighters demonstrated how fast they can get all their gear on. Then, with his mask on, he was able to move around to show our group what they would look like when fighting a fire–a reminder not to be afraid!
