Miquel Shanine – Music Therapist

Miquel is a Licensed and Board-Certified music therapist and is in private practice in Gainesville, GA. She has come to The Next Stop three times a month since February, 2014, bringing therapeutic and goal-directed music activities to the members. Each month’s session plan involves a non-musical goal in the following areas: communication, cognition, motor movement, emotional expression, and socialization. The group works on improving these goal areas throughout the session via singing, instrument playing, movement, songwriting, and other musical experiences. We are extremely fortunate to have Miquel choreograph and direct a musical performance for our members to present to our guests at The Next Stop’s annual family and friends dinner.

Brenau University Occupational Therapy Students

The Occupational Therapy Department of Brenau University has been a partner in our member support since 2008. The Next Stop serves as a fieldwork site for OT students as they learn about the role of OT in supporting adults with special needs. Under the guidance of an OT clinical instructor, Brenau students plan and lead activities that support The Next Stop objectives and facilitate the continued personal growth and functional skill maintenance of our members.

Fit Frenzy

The Next Stop is partnering with Fit Frenzy to help support our members’ fitness.  Fit Frenzy is a well established fitness studio for women in Buford. They also have instructors with an understanding of how to motivate, adapt and modify their exercise routines for those with special needs to participate. Their equipment, music, easy to follow routines and demonstrations help our members feel successful in their fitness endeavors.  A member favorite, Fit Frenzy conducts fitness sessions 3 times a month at The Next Stop.
